Levitt And Sons Deny Manufacturer Defect Claim

October 10, 2007

We have built a home in Hartwood Reserve Clermont with builder Levitt and Sons. Although their AC subcontractor has confirmed a manufacturer defect and Levitt and Sons have confirmed there was a manufacturer defect in the Lennox Air Handler… this issue is left with the homeowner and we are advised to contact our homeowners insurance. It raises eyebrows if a company like Levittandsons cannot cope with a $300 warranty repair. It sounds absurd … or is there more to the story?

Levitt and Sons

Times are changing for Levitt and Sons. One of the reasons why Levitt and Sons are failing the most obvious warranty or customer service responsibilities today may well be their current financial situation. The Business Journal now openly discusses the fact that Levitt Corp is considering its options in regards to filing bankruptcy for Levitt and Sons. Levitt and Son have terminated another 200 employees (about 1/3 of their entire staff) in September 2007 and Chairman and CEO Alan Levan told Business Journal that Levitt and Sons might default on some of its covenants for funding from lenders. Levitt reported a loss of $58.1 million for the second quarter of 2007. Click here to read the Business Journal report from September 28, 2007.

There is a saying that goes: “Buyer Beware” and I believe this is true for all home builders especially for Levitt and Sons.

Mold On WallsHard Wood Floor Damaged By Leaking ACMold In AC CabinetMold In ACOur home, built by Levitt And Sons, was “finished” in June ‘06.

Amongst other issues, we have had Energy Air (AC installer for Orlando area) visiting our home, since day one, in regards to different issues.

The urgency of the matter has been for months now, that we have mold inside the walls and it is visible on the outside now. A portion of our hard wood floors is flaking and is warped, discolored because of the moisture from the AC unit. White residue is surfacing through the grout of some tiles, all adjacent to the AC unit.

The last Energy Air technician has confirmed that the hole for the drain inside the Lennox AC unit was not drilled through, causing water to pile up and overflow. Our Levitt and Sons rep left a last message claiming that clogged drain pipes are an home owner issue? This is not a clogged pipe issue, but a BLOCKED hole issue by the manufacturer.

Find enclosed pictures of the damage after 1 year.
